Summary

World War II brings together six remarkable young flight nurses, who face the challenges of war and its many heartbreaks and victories as unsung heroes, in this inspiring novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel。

Audrey Parker's life changes forever when Pearl Harbor is attacked on December 7, 1941。 Her brother, a talented young Navy pilot, had been stationed there, poised to fulfill their late father's distinguished legacy。 Fresh out of nursing school with a passion and a born gift for helping others, both Audrey and her friend Lizzie suddenly find their nation on the brink of war。 Driven to do whatever they can to serve, they enlist in the Army and embark on a new adventure as flight nurses。

Risking their lives on perilous missions, they join the elite Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron and fly into enemy territory almost daily to rescue wounded soldiers from the battlefield。 Audrey and Lizzie make enormous sacrifices to save lives alongside an extraordinary group of nurses: Alex, who longs to make a difference in the world; Louise, a bright mind who faced racial prejudice growing up inthe South; Pru, a selfless leader with a heart of gold; and Emma, whose confidence and grit push her to put everything on the line for her patients。

Even knowing they will not achieve any rank and will receive little pay for their efforts, the "Flying Angels" will give their all in the fight for freedom。 They serve as bravely and tirelessly as the men they rescue on the front lines, in daring airlifts, and are eternally bound by their loyalty to one another。 Danielle Steel presents a sweeping, stunning tribute to these incredibly courageous women, inspiring symbols of bravery and valor。

The story is set around WWII and nurses from all different backgrounds who fly dangerous missions bringing back wounded soldiers from the battlefield。 I enjoyed the story, especially as it relates to each nurse and her story。 I connected with each woman and their individual motivations that led them down their paths。 Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy。

Flying Angels by Danielle Steel is a lovely story of six women who were members of the Army Air Forces Flying Nurse Squadron, Medical Air Transport Evacuation section, which after training would be sent overseas to help evacuate the wounded from the front。 The story tells of the backgrounds of each of them and then their stories as they came together。 At first it was Audrey and Lizzie, who had trained together as nurses。 Lizzie joined the Army as soon as she was able, but Audrey had to stay home Flying Angels by Danielle Steel is a lovely story of six women who were members of the Army Air Forces Flying Nurse Squadron, Medical Air Transport Evacuation section, which after training would be sent overseas to help evacuate the wounded from the front。 The story tells of the backgrounds of each of them and then their stories as they came together。 At first it was Audrey and Lizzie, who had trained together as nurses。 Lizzie joined the Army as soon as she was able, but Audrey had to stay home to care for her mother who had Parkinson's。 Just a few months before the two had taken a trip to Hawaii to visit Audrey's brother, who was in the Navy Air Corps。 Then, Pearl Harbor。 When Audrey's mother dies, she signed up immediately and went to Kentucky to train with Lizzie, and the two friends they made there: Alex and Louise。 They didn't meet the final two of the six until they got to England: Prudence and Emma。 All had stories of their own。 All were excellent nurses。 All we determined not to fall in love until the war was over: too much chance of heartbreak。 War is hell。 This is a slightly different take on it but it is still hell。 So many lives lost; so many lives lost close to home。 So much misery: lost limbs, lost eyesight, emotional problems, burns。 There was never an end to what they saw while performing their nursing duties。 Steel has told a realist story, probably not as real as it got, but real enough。 There was good news, too。 Lasting friendships, love and marriage, a future。 All of this and more were encompassed in this narrative。 It only was a couple of years and yet, so much changed。 Moving story。I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Flying Angels by Delacorte Press, through Netgalley。 All thoughts and opinions are mine。 #netgalley #delacortepress #daniellesteel #flyingangels 。。。more

This story focuses on the lives of 6 brave women whose lives merge when they join a military nursing unit during WWII。 With 6 main characters it did take awhile to get to the point where they all came together but I really liked all their backstories so I was invested in all their lives and while this book is fictional you can’t help but to think about the women you were really out there doing risking their lives to save others。

Flying Angels by Danielle Steel takes us back to the late 1930s and early 1940s as brave women (nurses) enlist。 We follow a handful of young women who are nurses。 After receiving their training, the women transfer to become flight nurses。 These women travel by plane to get the wounded and take them back to England for care。 These women never knew if they would make it back with the Germans shooting down planes and the frequent bombings。 I liked the characters in this story。 Audrey was an especia Flying Angels by Danielle Steel takes us back to the late 1930s and early 1940s as brave women (nurses) enlist。 We follow a handful of young women who are nurses。 After receiving their training, the women transfer to become flight nurses。 These women travel by plane to get the wounded and take them back to England for care。 These women never knew if they would make it back with the Germans shooting down planes and the frequent bombings。 I liked the characters in this story。 Audrey was an especially sweet young woman who endured such loss。 I thought the story contained good writing and developed characters。 The book moved along at a good pace as well once we got past the nurse’s backstories。 Once the book moved into the area where the nurses began training to become flight nurses, the story just flew by。 There was a little too much repetition of details。 I got it the first time and I do not need to be told multiple times。 I thought the author captured how it felt for the flight nurses and pilots。 I enjoyed reading about the nurse’s missions。 The tragic injuries and the number of deaths。 Flying Angels is not a happy-go-lucky story。 There is quite a bit of loss in this story。 It was great to see the nurse’s bond。 They did not care about the person’s background or color。 We got to see how a black nurse was treated in America and how she was treated in England。 It is sad how far behind America was then and now。 I am glad that the author wrote this story about the brave women who enlisted to aid our injured soldiers。 They risked their lives the same as any male soldier。 The death toll was tragic along with the injuries soldiers suffered。 I enjoyed this poignant historical novel。 Flying Angels is a touching tale with tragedy, heartbreak, dedication, courage, optimism, and valor。 。。。more

Danielle Steel's latest is set in WWII focusing on 6 women who serve as flying nurses。 If you like Danielle Steel you'll enjoy this one。 I think it might have been more effective to focus on fewer women and go more in depth for each but what works about the large cast is that with 6 nurses and their extended networks you leave with some sense of how so many families were deeply affected by the war。As always with Steel, her novels are a nice way to spend a day/weekend in a different world。 Her re Danielle Steel's latest is set in WWII focusing on 6 women who serve as flying nurses。 If you like Danielle Steel you'll enjoy this one。 I think it might have been more effective to focus on fewer women and go more in depth for each but what works about the large cast is that with 6 nurses and their extended networks you leave with some sense of how so many families were deeply affected by the war。As always with Steel, her novels are a nice way to spend a day/weekend in a different world。 Her regular readers will enjoy this visit to the Flying Nurses of WWII。Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

While it took awhile to get all the characters introduced and in the same place, this was a great story of something that happened during WWII and most people might not know about。 I love stories with strong female characters that fight for what they want。 Quite a few sad points, but that's to be expected in a book about a war。 Definitely recommend, great story! This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher。 All opinions are my own。 While it took awhile to get all the characters introduced and in the same place, this was a great story of something that happened during WWII and most people might not know about。 I love stories with strong female characters that fight for what they want。 Quite a few sad points, but that's to be expected in a book about a war。 Definitely recommend, great story! This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

I have to be honest, I think this was a typical Danielle Steel。。 She releases 7 books a year, so most of her books the last 5 years or so have been kinda basic。 That being said, I read them all and enjoy most of them。 I liked that the characters were a little deeper than most Danielle Steel's Female Characters ( they tend to be vapid and man crazy in most of her books) and the historical fiction background added to the book’s depth as well。Thank you to Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine I have to be honest, I think this was a typical Danielle Steel。。 She releases 7 books a year, so most of her books the last 5 years or so have been kinda basic。 That being said, I read them all and enjoy most of them。 I liked that the characters were a little deeper than most Danielle Steel's Female Characters ( they tend to be vapid and man crazy in most of her books) and the historical fiction background added to the book’s depth as well。Thank you to Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine, Delacorte Press, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest, unbiased opinion。 。。。more
